Boulder County Buzz - October 2016

Boulder County Buzz - October 2016

My iPhone vibrated on the wood surface of the bedside table at the Snowmass condo we were vacationing in. “RACE CANCELLED!” is what the email read at 6:03am. Ugh, I grumbled, seriously? We’ve had a glorious fall season with abundant sunshine, deep blue skies and vibrant foliage. And the sunsets? Unreal! But it seems like the one weekend we actually had rain, snow and cold temps, was the weekend of my Annual Aspen Golden-leaf Half Marathon. Snow that had fallen overnight pushed organizers to cancel the race for safety reasons. My friend Paolo and I were disappointed. We’d trained hard for the race, but we were reminded that mother nature can change the game and alter your plans.

Boulder County Buzz - September 2016

Dear friends, as the leaves start their ritualistic change in color, it’s proof that September really is here and the cool fall season is at our doorstep. The snow will fly soon but before we discuss that, there’s some business to complete.

As usual this fall I’ll be chasing big brown trout around our home waters with my angling buddies. I’ve been hammering our local running trails in training. My family is making our annual trip to Snowmass and Aspen for the Golden Leaf Half Marathon in about a week. I’ll run 13 miles through the tie-died aspen trees along the Government Trail. I’m pretty sure it’s my 11th time running this race - I just need to count my race t-shirts. What an awesome tradition!

Boulder County Buzz - August 2016

Boulder County Buzz - August 2016

Hi friends, it’s that time of year again when days get a little shorter and cooler and it marks the back to school blues as my kiddos Ethan and Phoebe hit the classroom this week. Phoebe will be in 7th grade and Ethan starts his high school journey. It’s abrupt, but also exciting to see how the school year unfolds for them. It’s also time for University of Colorado-Boulder students to arrive en masse and our streets will become snared for a few weeks as they settle in. It’s pretty cool to be in a college town, all abuzz with a youthful vibe. And of course fall is on the way and it’s the best season of the year to escape to the river, to fool trout. I’m really looking forward to that!

Creating Community, 25 year residents of the neighborhood recall how they landed in the LC

By Jon Hatch

Young Wes LeMasurier gripped the thick cable rails built into the granite stone
face, he looked down past the sheer edge of Half Dome with a rush of adrenaline,
and it was good. The air was cool on his sweat. The large, round-shaped rock in
Yosemite National Park exposed him to the wonderful elements of nature. The best
part of this adventure was that he didn’t embrace the adventure alone, but shared
the moment with his friend Heather, with whom he had a new relationship. They got
to the top, brewed some tea, then took a nap and after that they descended to the
valley floor. The hike up the side of the famed Half Dome would be just of one of
many adventures the couple would take together, for years to come... READ THE NEWSLETTER

Boulder County Buzz - July 2016

It’s mid July, and Oh My, summer is cruising by. Life goes by so fast this time of year with so much happening all these long days. Between kid’s sports, outdoor recreating, awesome backyard time and staying plugged in hard at work, it’s no wonder the days blend into one another. But I don’t take any of it for granted. I love it! I just got off the river with my son Ethan and his cousin from Vermont. We had such a good time and we all got burned in the sizzling sunshine. But it felt good. I hope your summer has been great, too.

This month’s Buzz has summer stats and interesting information about the potential future of Boulder County. Enjoy the articles, and as always, please contact me anytime to discuss any aspect of real estate in your neck of the woods. And thank you all for your frequent referrals, I couldn’t do this without you. All the best, HATCH

Neighborhood lost Laurie Paddock, a friend to Boulder history

By Carol Taylor, for On The Corner

I first met Laurence “Laurie” Paddock while I was librarian at the Daily
Camera (1998-2007).  I was fortunate to have occasional visits from Laurie,
the Editor Emeritus of the newspaper.  Paddock was long retired from his
position as editor, but now and then he would turn up for meetings… READ THE NEWSLETTER
